Prompted by an AP reporter’s question, President Obama spoke about immigration reform, policy, and enforcement during his primetime press conference last night. With so much on his plate, it wasn’t surprising that President Obama didn’t mention immigration reform during his initial statement. Nevertheless, it is reassuring that President Obama promised to push for immigration reform this year. Whether President Obama’s push for reform will result in action this year remains an open question.
Discussing immigration policy and enforcement, President Obama sounded the same horn as his administration has been sounding – a move away from the mindless roundups of unauthorized workers and towards action against those companies that hire unauthorized workers. Business owners, is your company doing all it is suppose to be doing to ensure it doesn’t hire unauthorized workers? If you are not sure , the administration’s enforcement push is a good reason to make sure.
