On September 19, 2011, the USCIS announced that it had exhausted the annual limit on U Visas. The U Visa is available to foreign nationals who have been the victim of certain, serious crimes, and is willing to assist law enforcement in the investigation of the serious crime. Each year, 10,000 U visas are made available. The USCIS will continue to process U Visas this year and will begin issuing new U Visas on October 1, 2011.
